Makoto Japanese Cuisine @ Desa Sri Hartamas

If you are big fan of Japanese Eel / Unagi, confirmed you will know this places which located at Desa Sri Hartamas. I can say that : they have the best Unagi in town!!! If you know me, i not a big fan of japanese eel, but for this, no "kua cheong" (exaggeration), I fall in love after I had this! LOL!

Makoto Japanese Cuisine, one of hidden gem in Desa Sri Hartamas offering authentic Japanese food. One of the signature item in this eatery is Eel / Unagi. The special of this eatery is not like ordinary eel that we always can find at outside, where the eel is actually alive and fresh direct fly in all the way from Japan. So you can find out that the taste is totally different compare with others.

The Unage chief master chef in Makoto is a Japanese, direct collaboration with the Executive Chef of a traditional Japanese eel restaurant in Tokyo, which has more than 200 years history ad has been loved by celebrities like top politicians and business executives.

The dining environment quite cozy, suitable for friends gathering or dating. According to the owner, this is one of quite a rare restaurant that mostly dine by Japanese.

If you come in group, they have private room but you have to make reservation before you guys come.

Let's check it out what we had for our dinner.

Oshinko Mariawase (RM18.00)

The first dishes we had for appetizer is Oshinko Mariawase, known as Japanese Pickles. The special of this pickles is homemade and marinated by themselves.  It taste like slightly sour and packed with natural sweetness.

Hone Senbei (RM8.00)

Next is Hone Senbei, known as Unagi Bone cracker. With deep fried to crispy perfection matching with sea salt, perfectly pair with some cold Japanese beer. This dishes also one of the must ordered, according to the owner. For me I kinda like the crispiness and the crunchy texture.

Sashimi Platter (RM138.00)

You know the must to have when you in Japan - Sashimi! This is also one of the popular dishes in Makoto, fresh air-flown sashimi, straight from Japan. Their sashimi platter comes with the fresh fish they get from their supplier every day, so is depending on what's available on that season. And we had sashimi salmon, tuna, yellow tail, prawns and halibut, served with real wasabi. I really enjoy this dishes, the sashimi is soooooo fresh ♥ Must try!!!!

Japanese Umaki (RM48.00)

Japanese Unagi omelette, this is my first time try on this dishes. the omelette was light and fluffy, the combination with omelette is perfectly bring out the mix of flavour and texture, Worth to try!

Shirako (RM52.00) - comes in 2 per order

This dishes is very precious and depends on seasonal. Shirako, known as Cod Sperm. Normally only available during Winter season. Hmmmm hahaha omg the first time when i heard the name i want fainted! For me, the texture was kinda weird tho, it stuck together with connective tissue like fats, and it is unbreakable. So you only can swallow the whole things. For the taste it is likely a bit sweet. Not bad not bad it still a good experience. LOL!

Tempura Mariawase Mixed (RM27)

Tempura Mariawase Vegetable (RM17)

A concoction of seafood and veggies fried with light & thin batter till crispy perfection. And it is less oil! If you are tempura lover this dishes is recommend to have it.

Unaju - RM100 (half) / RM185 (Full)

Tadaaaaa, i know you guys been wait for so long! Let;s me introduce the highlight of the night - Unaju (Charcoal Grill Eel Rice Box). This is highly recommended dishes that will give you the ultimate satisfaction! Makoto is the only one Japanese restaurant that use live eel to make this dishes. Each eel is kept swimming in tanks and only prepped to order.

Makoto's in house Japanese chef, Chef Hayashi, a trained & experienced chef does all the work. From filleting the eel, followed by a traditional way - charcoal grill for 10 minutes, before marinated once, and grilled again. The entire process will take roughly 30 minutes. Is not easy but worth to wait!

I am not Unagi lover but what I say that, this is the best Unagi I had ever!!!!! The meat is so soft, the freshness of the eel was free from that "fishy" scent! Pefectly matching with Japanese rice. I can felt the unagi melt in my mouth!!!No wonder all review stated that this is the MUST TRY in Makoto restaurant.

Tips : Oh ya, to add a bit of kick don't forget add a bit Japanese pepper (Sansho) on your unagi, it give slightly numb-ish feeling. Remember just sprinkle would do, and that'll change the taste of unagi.

Warabimochi (RM15)

A perfect meal always have dessert. They served Japanese traditional dessert, Warabimochi. First try this is soooooo sooooo good!!!! A sweet concoction of homemade mochi & jelly, dusted with kinako (roasted soybean powder). The sweetness is just perfect to end my satisfaction dinner.

If you are Japanese cuisine lover, definitely have to pay a visit to Makoto as they have best Unaju in town. Apart from their Unagi, they too offer seasonal items on their menu. What I can say is, Makoto is really worth to try as they have authentic Japanese food and I will definitely come back again!

P/S : Parking is a bit difficult but it'll be well worth the effort.
